2004 - 2009

Ernie retired from UNH in 2004. Ernie thoroughly enjoyed his involvement with the people at UNH and at Bethany Church in Greenland, NH. In March 2007, Ernie and Carolyn relocated to Garnet Valley, PA, just over the border from Wilmington, DE, where all 4 daughters lived. Two months later, Chrissie brought our first grandchild, Elizabeth, home from Guatemala! What a joy she is. Ernie and Carolyn joined Jennifer at Brandywine Valley Baptist Church (BVBC) and Carrie is active there as well. His leukemia became much more of a challenge to manage in 2008. In February 2008 he also got pneumonia and 'true flu' and was hospitalized. The biggest disappointment of his life came in March when he was unable to walk his daughter Sarah down the aisle as she married Mike Evers in Orlando. Gratefully the girls' friend, Charlie made it possible for him to participate and watch it live on the internet. Our friend Phil came from NH to stay with him. He had a short respite from the disease which allowed him a final summer at his beloved Montauk. February 8, 2009 he was rushed to Crozer-Chester Medical Center where he died 5 days later. He met Jesus face to face 31 years less one day from the day he committed his life to Him. He loved to say that the Lord gave him a new heart on Valentine's Day. He's out fishing with St. Peter right now!! Peter's showing him all the good spots!
